History

It is said the club dates from 1880, However, the first record of a match at Llantwit was between Llantwit and Cowbridge in 1889. In the early part of the twentieth century, the club had their Headquarters at the King's Head Hotel, they later moved to the Swan Inn.

After 82 years of rugby playing at llantwit Major, with a break of only 10 years just before and during the second World War, the club was accepted as full members of the Welsh Rugby Union in 1962. Plans were drawn up to build a clubhouse worthy of the club on land adjacent to the field bought in 1960 for £2,500. The land used to house the old cattle market, work commeced in Easter 1962. the club had already sold parts of the land to fund the building. Over the years there has been wonderful co-operation between R.A.F. St Athan and Llantwit Major Rugby Club.
