Club History
It is said the club dates from 1880, However, the first record of a match at Llantwit was between Llantwit and Cowbridge in 1889. In the early part of the twentieth century, the club appointed the King's Head Hotel as their Headquarters, later moving to the Swan Inn.
After 82 years of rugby at Llantwit Major, with a break of only 10 years prior to and during the Second World War, early 1962 was a great year for the club as it was accepted as full members of the Welsh Rugby Union. This great news led to plans being drawn up to build a clubhouse worthy of the club on land adjacent to the field that was once used to house the old cattle market. The land was bought in 1960 for £2,500 and with some of the land being sold off to fund the clubhouse, building-work commenced in Easter 1962. Llantwit Major Rugby Club commands a lot of respect and over the years has built up a wonderful co-operation with its neighbour R.A.F. St. Athan.
